GOGO REGINA Ngcobo’S FAMILY

The depth of Gogo Regina’s heart is endless. She feels her calling in life is as a mother, offering a loving and safe home to as many orphaned and/or abused children as possible.
When Carolyn first met her there were 12 youngsters under her small roof. A four roomed house divided into a living room, kitchen and two bedrooms. Mornings were a major traffic jam. Gogo rose early to boil water for baths and cook porridge on two hot plates and send her kids on their way safely to school.

Gogo lost her own daughter to Aids related illness and raises her grandson as one of the many grannies tending orphans due to the scourge of HIV/Aids. She cares for a few children who are HIV positive and doing well on ARVs. They attend the clinic diligently and pay careful attention to their health.
All her children attend school at various levels and she advocates for them to ensure they have the best chance possible.
She manages with foster care grants (R650/C$93) and Ukulapha helps her with fruits and vegetables.
We have also fenced her property to keep the children safe, planted trees for shade and recently extended her house!

They all now share a living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms AND a bathroom with a big bath and hot water!
