Mandela Day 2011

Today, on International Mandela Day, Madiba’s 93rd birthday, a group of 15 keen and fit young Msunduzi Karate Federation members donated time and effort to Slangspruit Primary School.
The Mandela Day campaign message is simple: Mr. Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. The request is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting a chosen charity or serving their local community.

The traditional 67 minutes evolved into 3 hours! Mr. Msomi, the school principal, purchased supplies for the group to paint the walls outside the classrooms; and youngsters got forks and worked the flower beds.  They got busy and they achieved plenty...team work, collaboration, fun and laughter!
 
       

 
The volunteers began working as students wound down their first day back at school after the winter holidays.  They were intrigued by the activity and impressed that folks had taken time from work to donate their efforts and heed the call from Nelson Mandela. 

On behalf of Ukulapha and Slangspruit Primary School, thank you all so very much; from young school lads to adults gainfully employed in the city.....duly noted by the banners representing the Department of Rural Development; Surveyor General’s Office in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.....Know Your Boundaries!
