Oliver's Christmas Lunch

SLANGSPRUIT PRIMARY SCHOOL

Friday December 9th School closed for the year with a delicious lunch from Oliver Dason, Ukulapha’s 15 yr old humanitarian friend attending Glenlyon Norfolk School, Victoria, Canada.
The kiddies are always excited despite the weather, and the skies threatened to make this a wet celebration. When I arrive the day before to drop off all the groceries, the youngsters come running to help offload. Here are some of the lads (note the Maple Leaf)....and some of the gals.....

Preparations begin early with the kitchen ladies peeling pockets of potatoes, butternut, chopping onions for a 10.30 am lunch. Teachers fill the kitchen, all hands on deck!
Here is the grocery list:
...frozen mixed veg, onions, potatoes, butternut, rice, sugar beans, soya mince, steak mince, cooking oil, curry powder, stock cubes, salt, chocolate bars for treats....all for 840 children from kindergarten to grade 7. That’s a lot of shopping! I always have to take a helper because that is two large trolley’s worth...

You would be amazed by the efficiency and orderliness of the whole process...I didn’t say quiet though! The kindergartens start filing from their classrooms, hands to shoulders, to line up at the serving tables. They move through speedily, cafateria style and then off to find a spot to settle and share a meal with friends.

Oliver supplied a few hearty meals this year at Easter, Thanksgiving and now Christmas.
This has been a huge dedication to the 840 students attending Slangspruit Primary.
His efforts have touched the hearts of others in Victoria; and the Sunday School children attending Oak Bay United Church and some of his fellow students have assisted him in his fund raising efforts. His friend Joon Ho, who is a cake decorator par excellence, donated a large cake for Oliver to auction.

Sixty beautifully decorated Thank You cards were sent to Oliver by the children of Slangspruit and many video messages and spontaneous song.....I will attach some links for you to hear their voices and words of gratitude......
