The mind is not a vessel to be filled
but a fire to be kindled ~Plutarch
Our core mission is to engage and support disadvantaged Pietermaritzburg Township communities through education and community development, and we took part in a historical moment that’s a testament to our work.
In partnership with Msunduzi Municipality, Msunduzi Library Services and Slangspruit Primary School, we have officially opened Slangspruit Public Library! The library is housed in Ukulapha’s modular unit, serving as a public library for the school and the community. We are so excited to have been part of such an amazing project, and we can’t wait to see the impact this will have on the community!
On July 27th, Ukulapha Community Outreach, the Slanspruit Township Community and the Primary School celebrated the grand opening of the Slangspruit Library! Through Ukulapha’s partnership with the Municipal/public library, the mayor hosted this grand event. We were all very excited as this day had been anticipated for quite a while. There is now a very experienced librarian on site along with her assistant and the cyber cadet who teaches computer lessons to the school students.
The entire library staff is provided by the municipality for which we are all deeply grateful. The library is now open to the community which includes the computer centre, a wonderful service which has been part of Ukulapha’s long term dream.
