Be strong, be fearless, be beautiful. And believe anything is possible
when you have the right people there to support you ~Misty Copeland
The theme has been that we run these workshops for caregivers when friends visit from Canada and I have support and company to run these rich and often heart wrenching workshops for the caregivers of the children at SPS and their friends.
Given that there is a shortage of space at SPS, the workshops are either during the school holidays or on a Saturday. Notices are sent home with the children and the caregivers wander in…we have no idea how many will come…we cater for 50, which would be more than enough, but we wouldn’t want to be short of food! We make sandwiches, have cookies and fruit and juice for everyone.
The workshops revolve around the children and trauma…sad and heartbroken, grieving and therefore acting out…their behaviour often misunderstood for which they get punished. We discuss feelings and role play all kinds of situations with so much delightful participation from the caregivers…lots of tears and some laughter…offering each other support and the elders with so many words of lived wisdom. And plenty of song that goes through every cell of the body and right to the soul!
